What is included in the total?
The setup total adds the machine, a separate grinder if needed, and accessories. The first-year estimate adds your coffee spending and maintenance allowance. Include tax and shipping in the prices you enter if you want the total to reflect what you will actually pay.
Enter zero for a grinder you already own or do not need. Do not count a built-in grinder again as a separate purchase. Accessories might include filters, a suitable vessel or other items you have decided to buy.
How the coffee estimate works
Monthly coffee cost is your expected monthly purchase spending. Annual coffee cost is that amount multiplied by 12. Maintenance is a yearly allowance you choose for items such as manufacturer-recommended care products or replacement filters.
The estimate does not predict changes in coffee prices or repair bills. Electricity, water, financing and replacement equipment are not included. Add known costs to your own comparison if they matter to the decision.
A worked example using illustrative inputs
Suppose you enter a $300 machine, a $100 grinder and $50 in accessories. Setup cost is $450. With $25 in monthly coffee spending and $30 in annual maintenance supplies, the first-year total is $780: $450 + ($25 × 12) + $30.
Those figures demonstrate the arithmetic. They are not current prices or a claim that a specific reviewed machine can be bought for $300.
Use the numbers with the buying guides
A lower initial price does not tell you whether a machine suits the drinks you want. Compare preparation, serving sizes, counter space and cleanup alongside cost. Keep the same coffee-spending assumptions when comparing two setups.
