Coffee Makers List · Buying & brewing
Start with a brewing method, then check preparation, serving size, space and cost. Use the guides below to work through the decision.
Compare how much preparation the machine handles and how it steams milk. If you make several drinks together, check what happens between one cup and the next.
For mugs of black coffee or coffee for guests, start with a filter brewer. Check the minimum and maximum brew volume, the filter it takes and how the carafe keeps coffee warm.
Check the compatible capsule format, drink sizes and cost per serving. A capsule brewer and a fully automatic bean-to-cup machine have different preparation and cleaning needs.
Measure the working space, not just the footprint. Leave room to refill water, lift a hopper lid, remove the filter and put down a jug. A compact manual brewer may be worth considering if counter space is tight.
Start with the drinks you make most. Count the grinder, filters and cleaning supplies as well as the machine. Our current model reviews do not cover every low-cost option; use the buying guide before choosing a feature-rich model.
